God Only Knows

Songs always seem to speak to me. It seems the right one always pops up on the radio when I need it. I’ve been hearing the new song by King and Country “God Only Knows” lately and it spoke volumes so I’m passing my thoughts along to you…as usual…!

The lyrics are…

Wide awake while the world is sound asleepin'

Too afraid of what might show up while you're dreamin'

Nobody, nobody, nobody sees you

Nobody, nobody would believe you

Every day you try to pick up all the pieces

All the memories, they somehow never leave you

Nobody, nobody, nobody sees you

Nobody, nobody would believe you

You keep a cover over every single secret

So afraid if someone saw them, they would leave

Somebody, somebody, somebody sees you

Somebody, somebody will never leave you

God only knows what you've been through

God only knows what they say about you

God only knows how it's killing you

But there's a kind of love that God only knows

But God only knows the real you

There's a kind of love that God only knows

For the lonely, for the ashamed

The misunderstood, and the ones to blame

What if we could start over?

'Cause there's a kind of love that God only knows

God only knows where to find you

God only knows how to break through

God only knows the real you

There's a kind of love that God only knows

How many of us have such deep pain, pain we don’t talk about, pain that we keep hidden? We fear being exposed or being rejected by the very ones that we might trust enough to tell…that fear is sometimes worse than what actually happened. We think nobody sees or would understand. We can’t risk another blow to our already busted hearts so we suffer alone.

But it’s our secrets that keep us sick. What we bury is still alive. Rotting secrets keep us in the past, a past we can’t change or redo. It causes us to not just feel ashamed about what happened but ashamed of ourselves. That is the real lie of our enemy…that we are to blame, that we are the bad ones. Even if we did something and we are at fault…we can’t go back and undo it. God’s forgiveness can swallow up our mistakes and set us free from the condemnation we live with.

For the lonely, for the ashamed

The misunderstood, and the ones to blame

What if we could start over?

'Cause there's a kind of love that God only knows

Those feelings are real; they hurt, we hurt…but even when people let us down and hurt us beyond what we can bear, there is a love…a love that God only knows! A love that can heal every wound, every, scar, every pain of our past! We can start over…forgive…let God scoop out all of the infection and receive his healing deep in the places we didn’t think anyone could reach!

Only God can reach you, find you, breakthrough the walls that you think keep you safe. His love is enough for the job. We can trust him to eradicate all the effects of the _____________ you fill in the blank. Whoever hurt you, disappointed you, left you, whatever you can’t face and move past…let him have it today, fling open your broken heart and trust him enough to hand it to him and leave it there.

God only knows where to find you

God only knows how to break through

God only knows the real you

There's a kind of love that God only knows

Father the pain that we hand you today is real for us. It seems unbearable and unfixable. BUT you are a God that heals, a God that restores, and a God that redeems all things. You can take what we give you and make beauty out of the ashes. Only your love can do that. We trust you with our brokenness and our past. We know that you can cause all things to work together for our good because we love you. Today we choose to let it go…and let you work…thank you that you love us enough to carry what we cannot….
