What Do You See

We think we can only see what is seen with the human eye. But there is so much more that is in us that we often don’t realize much less “see.” How do we learn to look beyond the obvious to the deeper possibilities that lie within us?

God spoke to many people in the Bible about what He knew was lying dormant in them. Abram was already an old man when God showed up and told him he would be the Father of many nations. In the natural that was impossible. God knew how He intended to use Abram so first He had to change his name.

There is power in the spoken word. For Abram to be what God saw in him it had to be spoken over him, so God changed his name to Abraham, “father of many nations.” Then He had to get Abraham to believe it. It took a long time for he and Sarah to learn that God was faithful and that they would actually have a son to fulfill their calling. It happened just like God said.

Gideon was minding his own business when the Angel of the Lord showed up and called him a “mighty warrior.” He’s like…who me? God said I am with you goand destroy the Midianites. But Gideon replies, But Lord, 'how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.'

Gideon only saw in himself his past, his failures and limitations because of his circumstances. But God knew the mighty warrior that was in himand He called it out. God showed Gideon who he really was and he finally believed God and became that very thing, a warrior.

Peter had a lot of issues. But that didn’t mean God didn’t see the possibilities in him. Peter went from denying he even knew Jesus to preaching the Gospel on the day of Pentecost and seeing 3000 people added to the Church! That preacher was in him all the time.

I had a very difficult struggle with suicidal depression for years. The lies the enemy was speaking to me became overwhelming to the point I couldn’t see the truth.  But God had seen something in me. He began to call it out. At first I’m like…ummm…are you sure you have the right girl..?!?!

Insecurities, low self worth, lies we believe, what others think about us all play into what we believe about ourselves. All of those things try to tear us down, to keep us from being who God created us to be. But…His word is true and can be relied on. He has a great plan for each of us, a future, a hope, a destiny; its time to grab hold of His promises and stand on them.

The greatness that lies dormant in us can only be revealed and seen when we believe it. Unless we look at it and take it as truth, accepting its reality it will stay dormant and never be achieved.

To believe is a verb. It requires action on our part to make it work. To say we “believe’ something but not act on that belief is deception. Whatever it is that God has spoken to you about yourself, believe it. Take steps today to make it a reality.

No it won’t happen overnight, and it won’t happen without our involvement. You eat an elephant one bite at a time, and our destinies are walked out the same way…step by step. Start today to take that first step, then another and another…
